Gertrude in Hamlet by William Shakespeare

"Mad as the sea and wind when both contend

Which is the mightier."

— Gertrude in Hamlet

A Unique Spin on Shakespeare's Classic Tragedy. The title character will be played by a woman with gender reverse casting in other prominent roles . . . This unique production is set in a non-specific time period heavily influenced in its design concept by the matriarchal society of Danish Vikings in which women assumed leadership roles typically held by men. suu.edu/pva

As Southern Utah University’s run of “Hamlet” came to an end Saturday, the student actors performed what would be the final bow for a full production on the iconic stage of the Adams Memorial Shakespearean Theatre.

Constructed on the SUU campus by the Utah Shakespeare Festival during the 1970s, the theater has seen hundreds of productions by both professional and students actors through the years. Famous actors have strode across its stage. But the festival retired it at the end of September with plans to move into a new Elizabethan-style outdoor theater for the 2016 season.
